In the Planner Community, there is a term called "Planner Peace". It's a Mecca journey of sorts in search of the perfect planner. We all seem to THINK we find planner peace until the next cute polka-dotted gold-lettering faux-leather binder comes out.
Yes, there is a community of planner obsessed people!
There are 2 types of planner people. The first type are the "normal people". They buy something that'll fit in their purse and they can jot dr. appts or Bible study times in.
Then... there's us..... the ones who know Heidi Swapp, Erin Condren, Kate Spade, Kikki K and Becky Higgins as if they were family. We known Filofax, Day Runner, Happy Planner, Carpe Diem and Color Crush as if they were our children.
We join facebook groups and follow Instagram accounts and watch "Plan with Me" YouTube videos.
Then we all run to Michaels, Hobby Lobby, Target Dollar Spot and Joanns to buy all the stickers, washi tape and stamps to decorate our planners with. If we find a good deal we post about it on our multiple Fb groups. We have stickers to meal plan and stamps of little water bottles so we can monitor our water intake.
But is all this REALLY about planning?
I'm not the CEO of a large conglomerate. I'm not Miranda Priestly (Devil Wears Prada reference)
I don't have multiple appointments and over-lapping conference calls.
Then why is someone like me (and there's a lot of us) obsessed with Planner Peace?
I think back to my first diary. It was cream-color with gold trim. It had a strap with a lock and key. I was maybe 11 and didn't have much to journal about other than my devotion to Shawn Cassidy or that I watched Happy Days and Love Boat. But I loaded it with Lisa Frank unicorn stickers, movie ticket stubs and a Bazooka gum wrapper cause it had my horoscope on it (and it was a good one that day).
I think maybe our planners are more of throw back to those younger years of scribbling "Mrs. Cassidy" and drawing hearts. It's more of a journal and art project in one.
So, as I decorate my Martha Stewart Disc Bound System with custom week-on-two pages vertical layout, I think about the new 8.5 x 11 Happy Planner I just ordered. Because that one will be my "Planner Peace"
